Who were the founders of the Brahmo Samaj?

The spiritual current known as the Brahmo Samaj traces its origin to the vision and initiative of Raja Ram Mohan Roy. He is regarded as the founder who first gave organized form to this monotheistic reform impulse, seeking to purify religious life and orient it toward a single, formless divine reality. In this sense, the Brahmo Samaj may be seen as the outward expression of an inner quest for a more rational, ethical, and universal understanding of the sacred.

Over time, other figures stepped into leadership and deepened the institutional and doctrinal life of this movement. Debendranath Tagore, in particular, played a crucial role in further developing and formalizing the Brahmo Samaj after the passing of Ram Mohan Roy, carrying forward the same monotheistic and reformist spirit. Later, Keshab Chandra Sen also emerged as a significant leader and reformer within this tradition, extending and interpreting its ideals for a new generation.
