Who is Mingyur Rinpoche?

Mingyur Rinpoche is a well-known Tibetan meditation master and teacher of the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. He was born in 1975 in Nepal as Yongey Mingyur Dorje, and is the youngest son of the renowned meditation master and lineage holder, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche.

From a young age, Mingyur Rinpoche showed a deep interest in meditation and spirituality. He received traditional Buddhist teachings and training from his father and other prominent teachers, and at the age of nine, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the great meditation master, Mipham Rinpoche.

At the age of eleven, Mingyur Rinpoche began a traditional three-year retreat, which is a rigorous and intensive meditation practice in isolation. During this time, he received extensive teachings and instructions from his father and other masters, further deepening his understanding and practice of meditation.

After completing his retreat, Mingyur Rinpoche began to travel and teach, sharing his knowledge and experience with others. He has since become a highly respected and sought-after meditation teacher, known for his warm, approachable, and down-to-earth style.

Mingyur Rinpoche is also the founder of the Tergar Meditation Community, with centers and groups around the world. Through Tergar, he offers teachings and resources for those interested in meditation and mindfulness, regardless of their background or religious beliefs.

In addition to his teachings, Mingyur Rinpoche is also a prolific author, with several books published in multiple languages. His writings cover a wide range of topics, from meditation and mindfulness to compassion and the nature of mind.

Despite his busy schedule, Mingyur Rinpoche continues to devote himself to meditation and retreat, often spending months in solitary retreat in remote locations. He believes that the more he deepens his own practice, the more he can benefit others through his teachings and example.
