What is Sant Mat?

Sant Mat is a spiritual path that focuses on the inner journey towards self-realization and union with the divine. It is based on the teachings of various saints and mystics from different traditions, but is primarily influenced by the teachings of Sant Mat masters such as Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras, India and Sant Darshan Singh of Beas, India.

At its core, Sant Mat teaches that every individual has a spark of the divine within them, and the ultimate goal of life is to realize this inner divinity and merge with the source of all creation. This is achieved through a process of spiritual awakening and inner transformation, which involves meditation, ethical living, and service to others.

The foundation of Sant Mat is the belief in the existence of a higher spiritual realm beyond the physical world, known as the "Daswan Dwar" or Tenth Door. This is the gateway to the soul's journey towards the ultimate truth and liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Through meditation and inner experiences, practitioners of Sant Mat seek to connect with this higher realm and attain spiritual enlightenment.

One of the key practices in Sant Mat is the repetition of a sacred mantra or "Shabd", which is believed to be the divine sound current that connects the soul to the divine. This practice of inner listening or "Surat Shabd Yoga" allows the practitioner to transcend the limitations of the physical body and mind and experience the inner realms of consciousness.

In addition to meditation, Sant Mat emphasizes the importance of ethical living and service to others. Practitioners are encouraged to live a life of simplicity, honesty, and compassion, and to serve others with selfless love and kindness. This is seen as a way to purify the mind and heart and prepare for the spiritual journey towards the divine.

Sant Mat also places a strong emphasis on the guidance and teachings of a living spiritual master, who is seen as a direct link to the divine and a source of spiritual wisdom and inspiration. The master is seen as a guide and mentor, helping the practitioner on their spiritual journey and providing them with the necessary tools and techniques to achieve self-realization.

In summary, Sant Mat is a spiritual path that seeks to awaken the inner divinity within each individual and lead them towards spiritual enlightenment and union with the divine. It is a path of love, compassion, and service, guided by the teachings of a living master and the practice of meditation and inner listening.
