Who founded Eckankar and when was it established?

Paul Twitchell, an English professor turned spiritual explorer, planted the seeds of Eckankar on December 3, 1965. Back when the spirit of the ’60s was still riding high—with people hungry for new ways to connect—a fresh path emerged, focused on soul travel and the inner Light and Sound. Drawing on ideas from Sufism, Hinduism and other mystical traditions, Twitchell wove together a unique framework that encouraged direct personal experience rather than blind belief.

Fast-forward to 2025, and Eckankar is tipping its hat to a 60th anniversary, with celebratory gatherings around the globe and online seminars broadcasting meditative exercises that spark inner journeys. Whether newcomers are curious or longtime members seek deeper insights, that original spark from 1965 still lights the way toward exploring consciousness beyond everyday reality.
