Are there specific mantras or chants unique to Smartism?
Smartism doesn’t boast an exclusive catalog of secret chants hidden away from curious ears. Instead, it weaves together time-honored Vedic mantras and non-dual mahāvākyas, then personalizes them through the Panchāyatana pūja—worship of five deities (Śiva, Viṣṇu, Devī, Gaṇeśa and Sūrya). A few staples:
Mahāvākyas as Mantras
• “Aham Brahmāsmi” (I am Brahman)
• “Tat Tvam Asi” (That Thou Art)
• “Prajnānam Brahma” (Consciousness is Brahman)
• “Ayam Ātmā Brahma” (This Self is Brahman)
These lines are the very heart and soul of Advaita, recited to steady the mind on non-dual Truth.Bīja Mantras for the Five Deities
• Śiva: Om Namah Śivāya
• Viṣṇu: Om Namo Nārāyaṇāya
• Devī: Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundaye Viche
• Gaṇeśa: Om Gam Gaṇapataye Namah
• Sūrya: Om Sūryāya Namah
A daily japa round often cycles through these, throwing a net of devotion around diverse forms while pointing beyond form to the One.Gayatri and Śānti Mantras
• Gayatri Mantra—an ever-fresh sunrise in sound, invoking illumination of intellect
• “Om Sahana Vavatu…Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ”—seeking harmony for self, teacher and worldĀtma-Mantras and Dhyāna Shlokas
Verses like “Om Asato Ma Sad Gamaya” or the Śrī Rudram Ārati get woven into group satsangs and home pūjas. In 2025’s surge of virtual spiritual gatherings, these chants have found new life on livestreams and meditation apps.
Rather than inventing brand-new formulas, Smartism’s strength lies in mixing these ancient refrains with a non-dual attitude—offering both variety in devotion and a single thread that ties everything back to Brahman. That blend of many and one, traditional yet ever-relevant, keeps this path strikingly alive.
